Remix your salad-Sweet Kale Salad Kit

Everyone has tried the sweet kale salad    kits. But some might be getting sick of the same old taste. I have a remix on the salad to help change it up!

Add everything in the bag except the poppyseed dressing

Add some fresh fruits or more veggies

The dressing. Add olive oil and vinegar. Here I added red wine vinegar or you can also add white wine. I would try to stay away from balsamic because it can be a powerful taste and for this salad you want something light.

Mix it all up and let me know how it is. Send me your remixes!

Halloween 2014 DIYs

I love creating my own Halloween costumes so I’m making this post to help inspire you if you still don’t know what you’re going to be. I’ve created 3 looks for different difficulty levels depending on your ability or how much time you want to put into the project.

EASY

Equestrian

Equestrian what you need

This is an easy DIY because you can use items you already have and there is no sewing involved.

1- The only part of this costume that you may not have already is the equestrian hat and whip. These accessories may be  optional as you can still complete the look without them. You can also substitute for a toy horse or have your date dress up as a horse or a polo player. If you are interested in getting the hat and whip, visit any major Halloween store or online.

2- The uniform is pretty simple, khaki or brown slim fit pants, a white blouse and a navy blazer. Because its a Halloween costume, I selected a shinny gold high waisted pant from American Apparel in gold to add a more costume feel to the look. The blouse is a cropped one but you can use whatever you have in your closet just make sure to button all the way to the top. And pair it with a black or navy blazer. I like this one because it has a crest on it (adds some more detail and richness to the look).

3- Another key part of the look will be the boots. Usually you would go for a brown or black riding boot but because its Halloween and you want to add some sexiness to the look, I say add over the knee boots. These are from Altuzarra for Target. Don’t forget about the black gloves which you probably have already.

4- To pull the whole look together, add a deep red lipstick and you’ve completed your simple DIY Equestrian look.

Advanced- If you want to add some more detail to the look, I would sew on a gold sequin trim along the side of  the gold pants.

MODERATE

Old Lady

Old lady - what you need

If you haven’t already seen this Skittles commercial, I’ve included the link here.

1- Turquoise tracksuit … you may have one already or you can find it at Juicy Couture, Walmart, Pink by Victoria Secret or online. Don’t forget about the white running shoes.

2-  If you can’t find a turquoise visor like the one here, thats ok. You don’t need it to complete the look. You can also substitute for big “granny” glasses.

3- The most important part, the cloud. To make this you will need cardboard and cotton balls. With the cardboard, draw out a cloud shape and create a 3D object. Don’t forget to leave a little pocket at the bottom for #5 below. Then cover the cardboard with cotton balls. If you need help creating the cotton ball cloud, you can Google to find tutorials.

4- From the commercial, you can see the cloud is floating and on a leash. To create this effect, you will need to purchase a strong thick wire that can be bent so it can hold up the cloud but still look like a leash. In order to hide the wire and make it look like a leash, cover the wire with turquoise duck tape and attach to the cloud securely.

5- In order to help make this costume more identifiable, you should include some small skittles bags in the cloud and share with your friends throughout the night.

DIFFICULT

Ursula

Ursula what you need

We all know Ursula isn’t the most attractive but here’s a way you can still create a sexy Halloween costume. Ursula with a twist.

1- Ursula’s look included finding a black strapless dress. Because she’s a villain, I opted for a leather dress, adds some edge to the look. But if you can’t find one, a simple black dress will do.

2- This will be the trickiest part. You can make the tentacles in different ways. Quick way- buy tulle in purple shades and create like a tutu at the bottom of the dress with triangle tips. Stitch thin wires on the tulle that are bendable and bend the tulle so it looks like the tentacles are blowing like Marilyn’s dress. Advanced – You can sew tentacle pieces and stuff with newspapers so that the pieces are thick similar to Ursula costumes you can purchase. The goal is to have the tentacles look like they are blowing in the wind.

3- The key accessories here are anything to do with shells. Don’t be afraid to make your own jewelry. Find some shells you might have picked up on your last beach trip. Paint the shells with gold or purple nail polish and attach to necklace or earrings.

4- The next important part is the makeup. Ursula has some pretty intense eyeshadow as shown above but remember this is a merge between Ursula and Marilyn so an option is to get purple eyeliner and create a dramatic wing along the eye instead of heavy eyeshadow. Don’t forget the red lipstick and red nail polish which is key to Ursula’s look. To add Marilyn Monroe details, add a beauty mark with a brown pencil. Ursula’s skin is purple but I don’t think its necessary for this look but feel free to do it if you like.

5- Ok now my favourite part, the wig. Purchase a Marilyn Monroe wig and colour it purple. Or if you can find a purple short wig, that’s even better.

Hope you like these ideas. If you have any costume ideas you may want some help on in order to bring it to life, leave a comment on this post!

Happy Halloween!
